2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC, E-Class and EQC recalled with crash sensor fault

The fault could cause a delay in the deployment of the airbags in an accident, according to the manufacturer.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled 17 examples of specific variants in its 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC, E-Class and EQC ranges, citing a potential fault with the side-impact crash sensors.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “The electrical connectors of the side crash sensors may not meet manufacturing specifications. These sensors are used to determine when to deploy the airbags in the event of an accident. If the sensors do not operate as designed, it may result in a delay in the operation of the airbags.

“In the event of an accident, a delayed operation of the airbags increases the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants,” the notice adds.

“Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Mercedes-Benz and are asked to arrange with their nearest authorised Mercedes-Benz dealership to have the work carried out as soon as possible,” the recall notice advises.
