2022 Lotus Emira: Official Australian importer hints at local pricing

The all-new British coupe will be pitched as a direct competitor to the Porsche 718 Cayman S and Cayman GTS Down Under.

Simply Sports Cars – the Australian importer for Lotus – has given the best indication yet of local pricing for the brand’s upcoming 2022 Lotus Emira coupe.

“We expect a … range from $145,000 to $150,000 plus on-road costs for the AMG [four-cylinder], and $175,000 to $180,000 plus on-road costs for the V6,” the company said in an official statement.

A spokesperson noted this is subject to change, however told Drive: “Lotus have made no secret of the fact that they see the [Porsche 718] Cayman S and Cayman GTS as the closest alternative vehicle for consideration among the buyer set, and we expect Australian retail price to be competitive against these cars.

“The expressions of interest received so far prove that for many people new to the brand, this is the Lotus sports car they have been waiting for.

“Furthermore, the fact that Emira will be the very last internal combustion engine sports car ever produced by Lotus will make it a car for the ages.”

The all-new Lotus Emira – which will start from £75,995 ($AU143,500) in the UK, and succeeds the long-running Elise, Exige, and Evora models – is offered with two engine options: an entry-level 268kW turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder from Mercedes-AMG, and a flagship 298kW/420-430Nm supercharged 3.5-litre V6 derived from the unit in the outgoing Evora.

Final pricing for Australia is set to be announced next month, ahead of the first local deliveries slated to commence in July 2022.

As previously reported by Drive, all examples of the Lotus Elise have now sold out. One Evora remains in the local network, alongside a “handful” of track-focused Exige models.
