Nissan’s new-model onslaught delayed to second half of 2022

The biggest overhaul to the Nissan Australia showroom line-up in more than a decade has been pushed back to the second half of this year.

Nissan’s long-awaited new-model revamp has been delayed to the second half of 2022, as ongoing production slowdowns and shipping bottlenecks continue to apply the brakes to the global automotive industry.

Nissan is due to introduce three new SUVs – small, medium, and large – in the next six months, delivering what is says will be the freshest showroom line-up in Australia this year.

Although the Nissan Navara ute is the company’s top-selling vehicle in Australia, the Nissan Qashqai, Nissan X-Trail, and Nissan Pathfinder family of SUVs combined are expected to account for more than half of Nissan sales locally.

Nissan Australia boss Adam Patterson said it was not ideal to have three core models arrive within months of each other, however the events of the last two years during the pandemic had slowed the rollout of fresh metal.

“All vehicles arriving at the same time … creates challenges,” said Mr Patterson.

“To be quite honest the cars are now arriving at a different time than originally planned. As far as availability is concerned, this is the earliest we’ve been able to get them to market.”

While the new Nissan Z sports car is just around the corner – with pricing due to be announced next week – further details on the Nissan Qashqai, Nissan X-Trail, and Nissan Pathfinder will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead.

Sales of the current-generation Nissan Qashqai, Nissan X-Trail and Nissan Pathfinder slumped last year as the models reached the end of their model cycles, having been introduced a decade earlier.
