Nissan Z prices announced next week, first shipments sold out

The first new Nissan Z sports car in more than a decade is just around the corner, but the first allocations due in Australia have sold out even before the price is known.

The reborn 2023 Nissan Z sports car – now with twin-turbo V6 power – has sold out before the first dealer allocations have arrived in Australian showrooms.

In a media briefing at Nissan Australia headquarters in Melbourne yesterday, Nissan advised the price of the 2023 Nissan Z will be announced mid next week during the company’s national dealer conference.

The first new Nissan Z since 2009 – and the most powerful since the original in 1969 – will initially be in short supply, even though dealers are already holding a long list of orders.

While Nissan executives declined to nominate exactly how many orders have been received – or how many customers are in the queue – Nissan dealers have told Drive that all of their initial allocations are spoken for.

Nissan Australia executives declined to say how many Nissan Z sports cars were in the first arrivals because of shipping bottlenecks and ongoing uncertainty around production numbers.

However, based on delivery estimates provided by Nissan dealers canvassed by Drive, the waiting time for the 2023 Nissan Z sports car already stretches beyond 12 months.

“Once [the] price is announced we expect more customers who have expressed interest in the vehicle will come forward and place an order,” a Nissan Australia executive told Drive.

The severe shortage of stock and the sharp spike in demand will likely put pressure on Nissan – and Nissan dealers – to distribute cars on a first-come first-served basis.

However, Nissan is yet to disclose how it will allocate cars to customers already in the queue – and whether there will be a limit of one car per person, to thwart financial speculators who want to buy the car and sell it quickly for a tidy profit.

As previously reported, the new Nissan Z will be available with a choice of six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic transmissions.

Nissan Australia says 70 per cent of orders received so far are for the manual variant, however it expects the fast-shifting nine-speed auto to account for the majority of sales over the life of the vehicle.
