Dealers have been advised exactly how long they must keep their demonstrator models, as the waiting list for the 2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series grows.
Toyota dealers across Australia have been advised they must keep demonstrator models of the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series for a minimum of six months – even if VIP customers offer to pay over the odds to jump the queue.
Toyota has placed strict conditions on the limited demonstrator stock so all dealers have an opportunity to show customers the first new Toyota LandCruiser in 14 years, amid uncertainty over when saleable showroom inventory will arrive.
Just 500 demonstrator models are being shared across Toyota Australia’s network of 330 dealers.

Toyota Australia is still no closer to knowing exactly when production will ramp up – or when deliveries will commence in significant numbers – but most Toyota dealers canvassed by Drive have provided estimates of six to nine months on vehicles ordered today.
In a roundtable interview with media last week, Toyota Australia executives said they were confident production will ramp up next year – but would not provide customers with an ETA until more information became available later this year.
Toyota Japan lost two months of production intended for right-hand-drive markets – due to the global semiconductor shortage – just as the assembly of the new LandCruiser was starting to ramp up.
Toyota dealers told Drive the current six-month restriction on demonstrator models could be reduced if there is a sudden influx of vehicles.
However, for now, dealers are prohibited from selling them until replacement stock arrives.
Last week, the head of Toyota Australia sales and marketing, Sean Hanley, revealed all right-hand-drive production for the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series had been cancelled for September and October.
But, he emphasised, reports of delays blowing out to four years were greatly exaggerated.
“We will get cars, they will turn up – but at this point in time we can’t say exactly when
,” a Toyota dealer told Drive. “But we are hopeful of finding out more detail and sharing that with customers as soon as we can.”Mr Hanley told media in last week’s teleconference: “‘Four years’ makes a great headline. But any suggestion that the reported situation in Japan could be repeated in Australia is just plain wrong.
“Allocation is market specific – always has been – so I expect, based on our plan, that we will have another successful year for LandCruiser (in 2022).
“Given this is an evolving situation … we will not be confirming orders until they can be matched to a specific production month.”
