Five-seat Ineos Grenadier priced from around $85,500

An extra row of seats in the Land Rover Defender-inspired four-wheel drive come at a premium of less than $1000, compared to the base two-seat model.

A two-row, five-seat Ineos Grenadier is set to cost no more than $85,500 before on-road costs in Australia, according to sources close to the new four-wheel drive project.

This follows the “indicative” price of $84,500 before on-road costs given for the five-door, two-seater Grenadier in base specification late last month.

While both the five-seat and two-seat Grenadier feature five doors and the same 2922mm wheelbase, the latter variant is pitched as more of a commercial vehicle, with a cargo barrier and raw storage space behind the front seats.

The five-seat Grenadier –pictured above – has a more conventional two-row interior layout with a smaller load space at the back.

These prices will apply to both petrol- and diesel-powered Grenadiers, with a fixed pricing model for Australia removing any room for negotiation by customers.

Full specifications and prices of the Grenadier are yet to be divulged, but Drive understands that the jump in price and spec in between the trim levels won’t be dissimilar to other, similar vehicles on the market.

For reference, a Land Rover Defender 110 is priced from between $74,376 and $145,166 before on-road costs, if you exclude the incoming V8-powered Defender at $215,676.

On the other hand, the new Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series is priced from $89,990 to $138,790 before on-road costs.

Australian deliveries of the 2022 Ineos Grenadier are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2022 (October to December), with the company currently taking fully-refundable $800 reservation deposits.

Ineos Automotive is the brainchild of British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who was inspired to create a new automotive brand after the original Land Rover Defender ended production in 2016.

Using BMW-sourced petrol and diesel engines paired to eight-speed automatic transmissions (designed by ZF), the Grenadier uses live axles and coil springs front and rear, with a ladder chassis and body-on-frame construction.
