Tesla Cybertruck locked in for Australia… as a remote-controlled car

The sci-fi-inspired electric ute is finally on its way Down Under, priced from $199.

The perpetually-delayed Tesla Cybertruck is unlikely to arrive in Australian showrooms anytime soon, however Hot Wheels has launched the next best thing for local electric vehicle fans: a 1:10 scale remote-controlled (RC) replica.

The new toy – which is made entirely from plastic – measures 19cm from nose to tail, and weighs just over 2kg.

A single electric motor drives all four wheels, and, according to the manufacturer, allows for a top speed of 19km/h on grass, dirt, or in the hallway.

Steering and throttle toggle levers are integrated into a replica ‘yoke’ steering wheel controller. This device also controls the car’s functional headlights and tail-lights.

The model comes with a non-controllable “Cyberquad” all-terrain vehicle, which fits snuggly in the tray. Online images also suggest the box set includes clear decals, which can be added to replicate the infamous window cracks from Tesla’s 2019 launch event (see gallery above).

The Hot Wheels Tesla Cybertruck ‘RC’ car goes on sale today, priced from $199 at Target.

Production of the real electric ute was recently pushed back to next year, despite Elon Musk initially claiming deliveries would commence towards the end of 2021.

Buyers can currently “reserve” a Cybertruck in Australia with a $150 deposit, however local safety regulations and right-hand drive requirements mean the vehicle’s future Down Under is in doubt.
