New details have revealed actor Adam Driver – playing Mr Ferrari – wasn’t allowed to drive a Ferrari in Ferrari.
The first teaser has been released of the biopic of Enzo Ferrari’s life in 1957, ahead of the movie’s cinema release in early 2024.
Directed by Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral), Ferrari follows the sports-car founder – played by Adam Driver (House of Gucci, Star Wars) – as he battles the looming threat of bankruptcy and increased competition from rival companies.
The film trailer features almost no dialogue, except for the final line from the film’s protagonist, stating: “If you get into one of my cars, you get in to win.”
Adam Driver, who plays Enzo Ferrari, told reporters that he wasn’t allowed to drive any Ferraris on set – despite many of the vehicles being exact replicas.
“[The cars] were the scariest things on set, but they wouldn’t let me drive the cars for insurance reasons,” Mr Driver said, according to news outlet Reuters.

Co-star Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy, Bridget Jones’s Baby) – who has competed as a racing driver in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona – was allowed to drive the replicas.
“It was quite terrifying. Driving a modern car you have a roll cage, but there was no cage with these cars,” Mr Dempsey said.
The film also stars Penelope Cruz (Pirates of the Caribbean, Blow) as Enzo’s wife, Laura.
Ferrari is scheduled to debut in Australian cinemas on 4 January 2024.
