A young driver with a suspended licence has been arrested after it was alleged he travelled at more than double the speed limit on Melbourne’s Eastern Freeway.
Victoria Police have arrested an 18-year-old man after he was caught allegedly driving at 210km/h in a Volkswagen Polo.
Police received reports of the red VW travelling at high speeds, and allege the P-plater – who was driving on a suspended licence – was weaving in and out of traffic on the Eastern Freeway before almost losing control of the vehicle.
While the vehicle was impounded at the time, police later arrested the man and charged him with reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, driving in a manner dangerous, driving while suspended, and driving while touching a portable device.
The man has been bailed to appear in court at a later date, and it’s expected police will apply to forfeit his vehicle.
