Maserati has revealed the MCXtrema, a hardcore, race-track-ready version of the MC20 supercar that can not be driven on public roads.
Italian luxury-car maker Maserati has unveiled a new variant of its MC20 supercar at Monterey Car Week, the race track-only MCXtrema.
The MCXtrema is a limited-edition supercar built for race track use only – known during development as the Project24, previewed in official computer illustrations last year – loosely based on the road-going MC20 supercar.
Only 62 examples will be produced, each priced from more than $1.8 million.
It uses a tuned version of the MC20’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine developing 537kW, up from 463kW in the road car – sent to the rear wheels through a unique six-speed sequential transmission and a mechanical locking differential.
The MCXtrema is based on a carbon-fibre tub developed by Italian race-car manufacturer Dallara, for a claimed dry weight (without fluids) of approximately 1300kg.
Claimed to draw some inspiration from the mid-2000s MC12 supercar – the Maserati twin to the Ferrari Enzo – the MCXtrema features unrestricted aero channels and scoops to increase downforce.
Drivers will be able to tune the car to their preferences, including changes to the power steering, traction control, brake balance, and engine maps, plus four-way adjustable suspension.
Carbon-ceramic racing brakes are also fitted.
Inside there is a racing driver’s seat complete with a six-point harness, a racing steering wheel adorned with a digital display, fire extinguisher, roll cage, an escape hatch in the roof, and the option of a passenger seat.
