Gordon Murray Automotive has unveiled the T.33 Spider – a convertible variant of its ‘cheapest’ supercar.
A convertible variant of Gordon Murray Automotive’s T.33 supercar has been revealed, with covers coming off the GMA T.33 Spider this week.
The brainchild of McLaren F1 and legendary race car designer Gordon Murray, GMA’s T.33 Spider is almost identical to the fixed-roof T.33 coupe unveiled in February 2022, though it gives owners the added advantage of being able to drive with infinite headroom.
With a carbon-fibre body and monocoque, the GMA T.33 Spider tips the scales at 1108kg – up 18kg on the coupe supercar – while its two roof panels can be stored in the 115-litre front luggage space when not attached to the car.
With the roof down, the GMA T.33 Spider’s occupants can enjoy its sonorous 3.9-litre V12 Cosworth engine – capable of developing up to 454kW (at an ear-piercing 10,250rpm) and 451Nm – which sends drive to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.
While GMA previously offered the T33 coupe with a six-speed paddle-operated automatic transmission, the two-pedal option has been removed due to low demand.
Speaking with automotive journalist Harry Metcalfe in his Harry’s Garage video series on YouTube, Gordon Murray said only “three or four” people had opted to buy the automatic T.33 – two of which “had problems with their clutch legs”, making it impossible for them to drive the manual.
As with the coupe, the GMA T.33 Spider has additional storage space underneath its rear quarter panels, capable of holding up to 90 litres on each corner.
Inside, the T.33 Spider’s interior is equipped with leather and suede upholstery, as well as a number of aluminium parts and accents.
Despite its bare-bones appearance, the convertible supercar is fitted with a climate control and infotainment system, incorporating wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Gordon Murray Automotive is yet to announce a price for the T.33 Spider, though it’s expected to sell out regardless of cost due to production capacity being limited to 100 examples – identical to the coupe.
All 100 examples of the GMA T.33 coupe – which started from approximately $2.6 million – were sold within a week of its unveiling last year.
