The P25 isn’t a 22B tribute – this is Colin McRae’s World Rally Car reborn with rego plates.
The Prodrive P25 has been revealed ahead of its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this week.
The P25 celebrates 25 years since Prodrive created the Impreza World Rally Car (WRCar) – arguably the most iconic rally car of the 1990s – which eventually spawned the WRX STI 22B, one of the rarest and most desirable cars to ever come from Subaru.
Just 25 production cars will be built by Prodrive, all of which will benefit from a quarter-century of technological innovation, with most of the panels manufactured from carbon composite – helping the P25 tip the scales at less than 1200kg.
Powering the vehicle is a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder ‘boxer’ engine producing around 300kW and 600Nm, driving all four wheels through a six-speed sequential transmission with helical-cut gears and paddle shifters, along with limited-slip differentials front and rear to increase traction.
Proving this is more closely aligned with Colin McRae’s famous rally car than the Subaru’s 22B, Prodrive has fitted the P25 with “WRC-derived” launch control, racing seats, carbon-fibre door cards, a Garrett motorsport turbo, an Akrapovic titanium and stainless steel racing exhaust system, and turbo anti-lag.
All of this helps to propel the P25 to 100km/h from a standstill in less than 3.5 seconds.
Stopping power is taken care of with AP Racing six-piston callipers at the front, paired with 380mm vented discs, and four-pot callipers at the rear with 350mm vented discs.
Adjustable Bilstein shock absorbers have been chosen for suspension duties, while 8.5 by 19-inch wheels are clad in 235/35R19 Bridgestone Potenza tyres.
The Prodrive P25 is priced from £460,000 ($AU808,000) before taxes – around double the prices being paid for original Subaru Impreza WRX STI 22Bs – with customer deliveries to begin later this year.
