2018-2022 Tesla Model 3 Performance electric car recalled in Australia

A software fault could prevent the speedometer from displaying, according to the manufacturer.

Tesla Australia has recalled 2799 examples of its Tesla Model 3 Performance sedan, citing a potential fault with the speedometer.

The affected vehicles are stamped Model Years 2018-2022.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to a software issue the vehicle, when operated in Track Mode, does not display the Unit of speed (kph or mph) correctly.

“As a result the driver may not adequately be able to determine the speed of the vehicle.

“If the driver is unable to correctly determine the speed of the vehicle, it may increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to the vehicle occupants and other road users.”

While Tesla has not previously itemised its sales by variant, the volume of cars involved in the recall suggests it likely comprises all Performance cars sold since 2018.

Drive contacted a spokesperson for the marque in Australia for further information, however did not receive a response.

Affected owners will receive a notification prompting an over-the-air update to rectify the fault.
