Indian automotive and tractor manufacturer Mahindra is set to enter 2022 with a new seven-seat SUV. Could this be the one to bring the brand to front of mind?
Although only a niche player in the Australian market, with just two models – the Pik-Up ute and XUV500 SUV – Mahindra is, slowly but surely inching its way towards greater mainstream appeal.
While the brand has a broad portfolio of products overseas, Australia’s range isn’t set to increase in 2022, however a key new model should see the brand attract more interest.
First shown in 2021, the 2022 Mahindra XUV700 is set to arrive in Australia as a replacement for the current XUV500. Full Australian specifications are set to be revealed closer to the XUV700’s local launch, scheduled for late 2022.
Based on information available in its home market, we can likely expect some of the high-end features, like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree camera, 10.25-inch infotainment screen, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, cabin air purifier, powered driver’s seat, and keyless entry and start.
Engine options overseas include a 147kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder, and a 136kW 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder developing 420Nm or 450Nm when paired to a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic respectively. Given the current XUV500 range is petrol-auto-only in Australia, we’d expect the same again for the new model.
