GWM X Cannon and Tank range one step closer to Australia

A full-size ute and two off-roaders from the Chinese manufacturer could arrive on Australian roads within the next few years, though it’s still yet to be confirmed.

Chinese marque GWM Haval (formerly Great Wall Motors) has registered to protect its X Cannon full-size ute, Tank 700 off-roader, and Tank 300 Cybertank in Australia.

A range of new ‘Tank’ and

‘Ora’ sub-brand badges have also been trademarked.

While the designs have officially been lodged for intellectual property protection Down Under, the move does not guarantee GWM will sell the above vehicles to local customers.

Manufacturers regularly file to protect products that may not ultimately make it to market, either to earmark potential options down the track or to prevent competitors from appropriating ideas.

Drive has reached out to a spokesperson for GWM Haval in Australia for further information on the local futures of the above models. This story will be updated if more information becomes available.

GWM Haval sales have skyrocketed in recent years, and during 2021 (year to date) the manufacturer has reported 14,892 vehicles as sold (up from 3985 during 2020).
