2022 Ineos Grenadier begins testing in Australia

Australian dust, heat, and corrugated roads are on the menu for the incoming Ineos Grenadier four-wheel drive.

The first example of the Ineos Grenadier – a heavy-duty four-wheel drive inspired by the original Land Rover Defender – has arrived in Australia and begun testing in local conditions.

This five-door, five-seat development Grenadier with a red and while colour scheme was initially outed on social media as it was being unloaded from a plane.

The vehicle will form part of the global 1.8-million kilometre ‘2B’ testing procedure for the 2022 Ineos Grenadier.

It will initially spend part of its time at the Australian Automotive Research Centre (AARC) on the outskirts of Melbourne for validation and “shakedown” purposes, before undertaking more testing in the hands of Ineos’ product and engineering teams.

Thermal load testing will be done as an Australian summer starts warming up, and the Grenadier will be further tested against more Australian specialities: dust and corrugated roads.

Between testing, Ineos also plans to take the Grenadier around Australia as part of a roadshow to demonstrate it to prospective customers. 

Ineos Automotive has also outlined their growth plans for the dealer and service network in Australia and New Zealand, with the initial 20 locations (16 in Australia, four in New Zealand) to grow to 28 after three years of operations.

Areas in Australia earmarked for expansion include: Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, Canberra, Cairns, Ballarat and Warragul. 

In New Zealand, automotive retailer Armstrong’s will be handling Ineos’ operations at four separate locations: Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
