Toyota opens Victoria's first hydrogen production and storage facility

Toyota has opened Victoria’s first commercial hydrogen production, storage, and refuelling facility, at the site of its former manufacturing plant in Altona. A 200kW electrolyser – which draws voltage from an 87kW solar system, 100kW battery, and the mains grid – is used to 'decompose' water into hydrogen and oxygen, and, according to Toyota, this can produce up to 80kg of the zero-emission fuel each day.

2021 Ford Transit recalled with driveshaft fault

Ford Australia has recalled 31 examples of its Transit van, citing a potential fault with the rear driveshaft. The affected vehicles were built between 18 August 2020 and 26 August 2020 (Model Year 2021). The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says: “Due to a manufacturing fault, the vehicle's rear driveshaft bearing support bracket may hold the driveshaft at the incorrect angle, causing excessive wear to the driveshaft over time.”

2020-2021 LDV G10 van recalled

Local distributor Ateco Automotive has recalled 563 examples of the LDV G10 van, citing a potential fault with the rear brakes. The affected vehicles were sold between 15 July 2020 and 25 February 2021 (Model Year 2020-2021). The 2021 Peugeot 508 range will double in size by the end of 2021, with the introduction of plug-in hybrid variants of the French brand's mid-size liftback and wagon. A Peugeot Citroen Australia spokesperson confirmed to CarAdvice the 508 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) – badged 508 Hybrid – will arrive in Australian showrooms in the second half of 2021, joining a plug-in version of the 3008 mid-size SUV also due in showrooms during the same period.

US government targets 'rolling coal' pick-ups – report

Parking pet peeves revealed in study

A study has revealed what Aussies hate most about about parking their cars, with parallel parking landing the top spot. The survey of Parkhound users – an app which helps drivers find car spaces – found 58 per cent said parallel parking is the most difficult way to park, with reverse parking taking the second position at 21 per cent. A total of 12 per cent find perpendicular parking – with front to curb – the hardest, while only 8 per cent dread angled parking.
