Back then, making a quirky crossover was not the obvious choice it is today, but rather a bold gambit carrying significant risk. One of the reasons so many brands offer design-led small SUVs today – Toyota C-HR, Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX-3 to name a few – is that Nissan showed the world how popular they can be.
