Tesla Model X shines at Good Design Awards

The Tesla Model X electric SUV has taken out Australia’s 2017 Good Design Awards in the automotive and transport category, beating out several other automakers in the process.

Helping the Tesla to take out the title is its combination of innovation, practicality and performance, with the following description listed on the winner’s list:

“[The] Model X is the safest, fastest and most capable sport utility vehicle in history. With all-wheel drive and a 100 kWh battery providing 565 kilometers of range, Model X has ample seating for seven adults and their gear. Accelerating from zero to 100 km/h in as quick as 3.1 seconds”

Designed in the USA by Franz Van Holzhausen, the Model X beat out more mainstream offerings including the Audi A5/S5, Audi Q2, Hyundai i30, Mazda CX-5, and Renault Megane.

Tesla’s Powerwall 2 home energy storage system was also nominated as a finalist for the overall Good Design Award, however it didn’t take out the title.

An open exhibition for the finalist entries of the Good Design Awards will be showcased at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Sydney, from June 9-11.

The Good Design Awards have been an annual event since 1958, celebrating the best new products and services in the Australian market
