2018 Range Rover Velar adds 221kW Ingenium petrol engine

The upcoming 2018 Range Rover Velar has become the latest recipient of parent company Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) most powerful version of its 2.0-litre ‘Ingenium’ petrol engine.

With the wider Velar range heading Down Under later this year, the company expects the high-output petrol models to go on sale around December 2017.

Producing 221kW of power and 400Nm of torque from the four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, the Velar can sprint from 0-100km/h in a brisk 6.0 seconds.

It’s unclear whether the new engine will be available across all nine trim levels of the Velar range, though it’s likely several new variants will be added to the 42-strong model family as a result.

Pricing and specifications for the 221kW petrol versions of the Velar are unconfirmed as yet, so stay tuned to CarAdvice for an update in the lead-up to the December on-sale date.

The addition of the new engine to the Velar range follows the introduction of the same unit across several JLR Group models, including the Jaguar XE, XF and F-Pace, along with the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque.
