The Subaru Outback enters the new year unchanged after price rises – and the addition of turbo power – in 2023.

- Priced from $42,690 plus on-road costs
The 2024 Subaru Outback high-riding station wagon is entering its third year in Australian showrooms, after the new model arrived at the start of 2021.
The Outback – which was Subaru’s second-best seller locally in 2023 – is available in five variants for 2024, as stock of the 50 Years anniversary special edition offered last year sells out.
There have been no changes to the model line-up or prices since an update in early 2023 brought tweaked styling, new technology and the option of a turbocharged petrol engine.
Most models are fitted with a 2.5-litre non-turbo petrol four-cylinder with 138kW/245Nm, while Sport and Touring buyers can pay $5000 extra for ‘XT’ versions with more powerful 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines (183kW/350Nm).
Both engines are connected to a continuously-variable automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. 2.5-litre models can run on 91-octane petrol, while 2.4-litre turbo versions require 95-octane premium unleaded.

Standard equipment on every Subaru Outback includes LED headlights, roof rails, 18-inch alloy wheels with a full-size spare, 213mm of ground clearance, scratch-resistant mudguards and privacy glass.
There is also keyless entry and start, an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, leather-trimmed steering wheel, dual-zone climate control and an 11.6-inch touchscreen with a rear-view camera.
The screen includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, while there is also wireless smartphone charging.
All models offer 522 litres of boot space with the rear seats in use, and 1267 litres with the rear seats folded, with a retractable cargo blind.
Standard safety technology includes nine airbags, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and a driver attention monitor.
The Outback achieved a five-star safety rating from ANCAP when it was tested in 2021 to standards which were superseded by more stringent protocols at the start of this year.
