Rally fans rejoice, with a new film outlining one of the fiercest battles ever seen in the World Rally Championship coming to cinemas in the new year.
A teaser has been released for a new movie showcasing the battle between Audi and Lancia during the 1983 World Rally Championship.
Titled Race for Glory: Audi vs. Lancia, the film outlines the heated battle between the two European rally teams as they compete for the title during the intense Group B era.
The 1983 season featured some of the biggest names in rallying, including Walter Rohrl, Stig Blomqvist, Michele Mouton, Ari Vatanen, and Markku Alen.
However, it appears as if the film will focus on the two team managers – Lancia’s Cesare Fiorio, played by Riccardo Scamarcio (John Wick 2, Loose Cannons, To Rome with Love), and Audi’s Roland Gumpert, played by Daniel Bruhl (Inglourious Basterds, Good Bye Lenin, Captain America: Civil War).
Bruhl is perhaps best known for his depiction of Niki Lauda in the 2013 blockbuster Rush, directed by Ron Howard, and starring alongside Australian actor Chris Hemsworth as James Hunt.
Group B was considered one of the most exciting periods of rallying – as well as its most deadly – with turbocharging and all-wheel-drive technology coming to the fore to produce some of the most powerful cars ever seen in the sport.
Directed by Stefano Mordini (The Invisible Witness, Smalltown, Italy, Steel), Race for Glory also stars Katie Clarikson-Hill as Jane McCoy, Volker Bruch as Walter Rohrl, and Esther Garrel as Michele Mouton.
Race for Glory: Audi vs. Lancia will debut in theatres on 5 January 2024.
