In just 15 years, and with just two models, Isuzu Ute is now among the Top 10 selling car brands in Australia.
Isuzu Ute Australia has marked a 15-year milestone with a total of 300,000 vehicles sold and delivered to Australian buyers, across the brand’s 165 national dealer locations – up from just 19 when the brand launched.
The figure, comprised of 218,620 D-Max utes and 84,181 MU-X SUVs (302,801 total) is the number of vehicles sold by Isuzu Ute Australia the company between October 2008 and October 2023.
It excludes trucks or heavy vehicles sold by the company’s Isuzu Trucks division.
More than half the cars (around 170,000) are 4×4 D-Max utes, with the volume so far in 2023 the record for the model. The 4×2 D-Max makes up just under 17 per cent of the volume, with 2021 a record year for sales.
The MU-X SUV joined the Isuzu Ute showroom in 2013, with an annual sales record of more than 13,000 cars poised to be broken this year.
Isuzu has seen near-continual growth in the past 15 years, with only 2019 (an 8 per cent drop in sales), 2020 (13 per cent drop) and 2022 (1 per cent drop) the only times the the brand hasn’t increased its sales compared to the 12 months prior.
The brand broke the 10,000 annual sales mark in its sixth year (2013), and 20,000 two years later.
Its cumulative sales passed the 100,000 mark in 2017, and then 200,000 in 2021. Sales of both the D-Max and MU-X climbed significantly following the introduction of the current-generation vehicles in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
The Isuzu D-Max won the Drive Car of the Year Best Dual-Cab Ute category in 2021 and 2022.
