Ineos Grenadier deployed for search and rescue duties in Scotland

The French-built, BMW-powered Ineos Grenadier four-wheel-drive replaces an ageing Land Rover Defender on rescue duties in the Scottish countryside.

An Ineos Grenadier – a new four-wheel-drive built in the spirit of the original Land Rover Defender – has been outfitted for search and rescue duties in Scotland.

It is the first Grenadier to be converted for use by emergency services, according to Fleet News UK, and replaces an ageing Defender on the fleet of water rescue organisation Nith Inshore Rescue in south-west Scotland.

The Grenadier has been put to work towing an inflatable lifeboat as well as other equipment used by the organisation.

“We deal with life-and-death situations, very harsh weather and challenging terrain, so when it came to evaluating the options for a new support vehicle, there were few options and the Grenadier stood out,” said Peter Bryden, secretary of Nith Inshore Rescue, in a media statement.

To complete the transformation, the off-road SUV was fitted with an extendable roof-mounted camera, as well as the optional snorkel and roof rack, a Nith Inshore Rescue Livery, and a set of blue lights on the roof.

In Australia, the Ineos Grenadier was recently hit with its second price rise in 12 months – and the cheapest model is now $25,000 more expensive than it was 18 months ago.
