Ask nicely and it seems Santa is ready to gift the first new BMW M5 Touring wagon in nearly 15 years, coming in 2024 with V8 plug-in hybrid power.
BMW M has published another teaser for the 2025 BMW M5 Touring high-performance wagon, ahead of its unveiling expected in about nine months from now.
It gives little away about the design of the M5 wagon – shown in gift wrapping in a Christmas-themed video – that has not already been seen in previous photos of the new car testing in Europe.
BMW has all but confirmed reports it will be powered by the 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 and electric motor from the XM super SUV, driving all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Reports suggest the new M5 sedan and Touring will develop 535kW – compared to 460kW from today’s petrol-only M5 sedan – while the anticipated 25.7kWh battery pack is likely to be capable of close to 100km of electric-only driving.
The ‘E’ on the licence plate denotes its plug-in hybrid system can allow more than 40km of electric driving range. The taller XM SUV is capable of close to 90km, despite its size and heft.
It is expected to be capable of completing the zero to 100km/h sprint in less than four seconds.
Denoting the M5 Touring from its standard siblings on the road will be more aggressive bumpers and air intakes, wider wheel arches, unique alloy wheels, quad exhaust tips, and a variety of other design changes.
As previously reported the new ‘G91’ M5 Touring will be the first of its kind since production of the V10-powered, ‘E61’ BMW M5 Touring ended in 2010, and only the third M5 wagon out of seven generations of the M5 sedan since 1984.
Production of the 2025 BMW M5 Touring is due to commence in November 2024, according to overseas reports – a few months after the first M5 sedans are built in July 2024.
BMW typically unveils new M cars up to two to four months before production commences, suggesting the covers may come off the Touring after the middle of next year.
