2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz price for Australia due early next year, model line-up outlined

The modern, electric VW Kombi is due in Australian showrooms at the end of next year. Prices are due to be announced early next year – in excess of $100,000 for high-end models.

Prices for the 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz – the electric revival of the iconic Volkswagen Kombi of the 1960s – are due to be announced early next year ahead of first deliveries by the end of 2024, pending any delays.

The first examples due in Volkswagen Australia showrooms next December are planned to be short-wheelbase models – in delivery van, and five-seat people-mover formats – ahead of a long-wheelbase, seven-seat people mover in the first half of 2025.

A pair of short-wheelbase ID. Buzz examples – which have been in Australia since the end of 2022 – made their local public debut at a Volkswagen-sponsored Kombi and surfing festival on Saturday along Sydney’s Cronulla Beach.

Prior to the event, the company had received about 500 expressions of interest since an online web portal was opened two weeks prior.

“[Interest has been] really, really strong. Seeing the smile on people’s faces has been the really positive thing about today,” Nathan Johnson, head of marketing and product for VW Commercial Vehicles in Australia, told Drive.

“I think the biggest [thing] is to introduce that the car is coming to Australia, because not a lot of people are aware of it out here, being a European vehicle only at the moment.”

A company spokesperson said prices are “anticipate[d]” to be announced between January and March 2024 – pending any delays.

Using European prices as a guide, many models could cost in excess of $100,000 – on par with the most expensive diesel Multivan people mover sold by VW Australia ($98,690 plus on-road costs).

When asked if a potential $100,000 base price would be of concern, Mr Johnson said: “Not at all, there’s definitely an appetite for it here. There are plenty of competitors bringing similar cars in around those price points. The package you’re getting that sort of price is very enticing.”

Volkswagen executives have confirmed plans for a high-performance, all-wheel-drive GTX edition overseas, with 250kW and 0-100km/h acceleration in a claimed 6.4 seconds.

VW Australia has expressed interest in any future all-wheel-drive versions of the ID. Buzz, to match similar all-wheel-drive versions of the diesel Multivan and Transporter.
