Mere weeks after hitting the road in Australia, this Ineos Grenadier has already had the roof chopped and converted into a pop-top camper.
The Ineos Grenadier four-wheel drive now has a pop-top conversion available, thanks to Australian company Expedition Centre.
Based in Sydney, Expedition Centre has been making pop-top conversions for Land Rover Defenders and Toyota LandCruisers since 2009.
But now with the Ineos Grenadier hitting the road in Australia, Expedition Centre has quickly turned its attention to the new, old-school four-wheel-drive wagon.
Similar to conversions Expedition Centre has been doing on Defenders and LandCruiser Troopcarriers, the roof of the Grenadier is removed and modified to fit in a slatted 1.3-metre wide Fanello Bed.
Hinged at the front and latched at the back, the roof can ‘pop’ open to create additional sleeping and living space inside the vehicle.
The roofline of the Grenadier is raised by around 250mm, increasing the height of the Grenadier to approximately 2.3 metres.
However, Daniel Fluckiger from Expedition Centre told Drive the roof conversion doesn’t add as much height as a comparable vehicle with a roof rack and roof-top tent.
In comparison to previous Defender and LandCruiser pop-top conversions, the Grenadier bed base sits relatively higher. This is because of the curtain airbags in the Grenadier, something the Land Rover and Toyota both don’t have to worry about.
Another complication with the Grenadier is the roof-mounted switch panel, with Expedition Centre choosing to leave this area untouched. Instead, the roof is cut around the B-pillar area behind the driver’s seat.
The high roof load capacity of the Grenadier means no additional structure needs to be built into the roof, and the entire conversion adds approximately 90 kilograms to the weight of the vehicle.
While the bed allows for sleeping with the roof popped open, it can also be lifted up and out of the way to make for standing room within the vehicle.
The pictured conversion, which is a customer car, is a two-seat version of the Grenadier. However, the five-seat Grenadier can also be converted into a pop-top. The cargo area of the Grenadier can fitted out with a variety of different layouts, including a kitchenette or storage.
This freshly-finished conversion will be on display at the Sydney 4WD & Adventure show, this weekend – 8-10 September 2023.
The cost of the Expedition Centre conversion for a Grenadier starts at around $15,500, but prices will vary depending on customisation. Construction takes around four weeks.
