Bentley developed the ‘Naim for Mulliner’ sound system that just 18 customers can buy.
Bentley has revealed the new ‘Naim for Mulliner’ sound system which uses unique in-car audio technology. Designed exclusively for customers of the Bentley Batur by Mulliner, the audio system required 10,000 hours of development to produce the final desired audio output.
Not available for any other Bentley customers, a limited group of just 18 coach-built Batur by Mulliner cars will be produced. While it will be a talking piece for owners, the ‘Naim for Mulliner’ audio system is offered as an optional upgrade over the ‘standard’ speakers.
Bentley and Naim have collaborated since 2008 to create unique in-car audio systems, crafted at Bentley’s ‘Dream Factory’ where it is based in Crewe, England. However, this new system is “the most exquisite in-car audio system ever created,” according to Bentley.
An effort involving Naim and speaker specialists Focal, it addresses more than 56 particular requirements from the 20-speaker system in the Batur.
The system uses bespoke Focal speaker drivers positioned within Bentley’s unique additive manufacturing-created speaker baskets, amplifying the system’s performance beyond normal capabilities.
Comprising six tweeters, nine mid-range speakers, two woofers, two active bass transducers, and one sub-woofer, the entire system underwent rigorous modifications and enhancements.
It also required producing a new ‘M’-profile cone design that’s produced from a single-piece, meaning it is devoid of a dust cap and results in further enhancements to sound quality.
The final result is a £25,000 option for customers, or approximately $AU49,000. It is characterised as offering remarkable presence and intricate detail for an unrivalled musical experience, providing power, warmth, airiness and immersion to the listening experience.
While the ‘Naim for Mulliner’ sound system costs about 50 times more than many home HiFi setups, it is just another box-ticking exercise that the exclusive 18 customers can opt for as they join Bentley’s Mulliner Design team to customise their handbuilt cars which came with a starting price of $2.8 million.
