Is there space for another Ford Ranger variant? A trademark filing suggests the Ranger Stormtrak may be a possibility, offering buyers a more aggressive appearance package and a leather interior.
Australia could be in line to get another variant of the Ford Ranger ute, after the car giant submitted a trademark filing for the ‘Stormtrak’ name locally.
Ford unveiled the Ranger Stormtrak in Thailand earlier this year, sitting between the Wildtrak and range-topping Raptor in the model line-up.
Now a new trademark filing has been unearthed in Australia for the Stormtrak badge.
While trademarks are often used to protect a name and are no guarantee of its use, Drive understands the Stormtrak hasn’t been ruled out for the Australian market at this time.

In Thailand, the Ranger Stormtrak offers a number of styling upgrades, including unique decals, black 20-inch alloy wheels with red accents, a new grille with LEDs, and a sliding sailplane which can double as a ladder rack.
Inside, the Range Stormtrak gets a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, and black leather with red contrast stitching.
Under the bonnet is the Ranger’s 2.0-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine.

If the Ford Ranger Stormtrak is eventually introduced locally, the ute could ges an Australian-specific set of features, while adopting a similar look to the Thailand variant – though this is yet to be officially confirmed by the car-maker.
In July 2022, Ford attempted to trademark the ‘Thunder’ badge – however, it’s believed the application was rejected due to the Mazda BT-50 Thunder already being on sale in Australia.
