The world’s only Pagani Zonda 760LH – a one-off supercar commissioned and previously owned by Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton – has crashed 18 months after it was sold for 10 million Euros ($AU16.9m).
An ultra-rare Pagani Zonda supercar which was commissioned by – and named after – seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton has been crashed by its new owner, less than two years after the most successful driver in Grand Prix history sold the one-off vehicle.
In a post on social media platform Instagram by photographer Ethan Gale, the Pagani Zonda 760LH allegedly crashed in a tunnel near Conwy, Wales earlier this week.
According to Mr Gale, witnesses to the crash claim the owner accelerated in the tunnel, spun the wheels and lost control, resulting in damage to all four corners of the supercar.
The owner – who purchased the car in January 2022 for 10 million Euros ($AU16.9m) – was reportedly unharmed and no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
It is the second time the car has been crashed, following a collision in Monaco in 2015 with Hamilton behind the wheel.
Hamilton commissioned the one-off Pagani Zonda – based on the 760RS variant – in 2014 during his run to a second F1 world championship, reportedly paying 1.4 million Euros ($AU3.74m) for the bespoke supercar at the time.
While the Pagani Zonda 760RS sent the Mercedes-built 7.3-litre V12 engine’s 559kW/780Nm outputs to its rear wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, Hamilton requested a six-speed manual gearbox for the 760LH.
The winner of 103 Formula One Grands Prix claimed the automatic transmission made the Pagani Zonda one of the worst cars to drive, complaining it shifted gears too slowly and detracted from the driving experience.
As well as the unique gearbox, the Zonda 760LH is set apart from its siblings due to its purple interior and exterior, reflecting the colour of Hamilton’s racing helmet.
The car was sold last year after Hamilton announced he would only drive hybrid and electric cars – such as the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar, which is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre V6 engine and hybrid system derived from his championship-winning Formula One cars.
