2024 Volkswagen Tiguan interior teased ahead of late-2023 reveal

The third-generation of the Volkswagen Tiguan – the German car giant’s most popular model – is due to be unveiled before the end of the year, 12 months ahead of Australian deliveries.

German car giant Volkswagen has previewed the next-generation Tiguan’s interior in a new set of teaser images, ahead of the popular medium SUV’s unveiling later this year – with Australian showroom arrivals due to begin in late 2024.

Volkswagen’s photos provide the first official look inside the third-generation Tiguan’s cabin, which will feature a 15-inch infotainment display (up from 9.2 inches) and a larger digital dash than the current model (10.25-inch).

The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is also one of the car-maker’s first models to revert back to physical buttons on its steering wheel, replacing the controversial touch-sensing controls which debuted in 2019.

Touch-sensing controls – which were criticised for being hard to operate when the driver’s attention is on the road – featured in the Tiguan across its top-of-the-range R-Line and R variants.

In October 2022, Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer announced physical buttons will again become the norm across the company’s model range – however the touch-sensing controls appear to remain on the base of the Tiguan’s infotainment screen.

With no manual transmission option across the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan range, the SUV’s gear selector has moved from a traditional stick between the driver and passenger to a ‘steering column switch’.

Similar to those found in certain Mercedes-Benz models, the column switch engages ‘Drive’ when pushed forwards and ‘Reverse’ when pulled back, with the electronic parking brake activated by a button on the end of the stalk.

The new Volkswagen Tiguan will also be equipped with a ‘vehicle dynamics manager’ system as standard, incorporating its electronic differential locks (XDS) and optional adaptive suspension, marketed by Volkswagen as DCC Pro.

Overseas, the Volkswagen Tiguan will be offered with a choice of diesel and petrol engines, as hybrid variants also join the line-up for the first time.

While it is not clear which engines will be offered in the new Tiguan in Australia, it is expected to be a heavy revision of the current model, which is sold with a choice of 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and turbo-diesel power.

Volkswagen Australia has previously said the Tiguan plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is on its wishlist for local showrooms – claiming the electrified SUV can achieve up to 100km of electric-only driving range.

As previously reported, The global unveiling of the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan will take place in late 2023, with European deliveries of the new-look SUV starting early next year.

The first deliveries of the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan to customers in Australia are due to begin in the third quarter (July-September) or fourth quarter (October-December) of 2024.
