Peugeot has previewed the interiors of its future models with the debut the new 3008 electric family SUV’s cabin, ahead of its full unveiling in September.
French car-maker Peugeot has unveiled the interior of the next-generation 2023 Peugeot 3008 family SUV – which is set to spread to the brand’s other next-generation models – ahead of the car’s global debut this September.
The new 3008 will be offered with electric power only – and spy photos show it is due to adopt a coupe-inspired shape with a sloping roofline akin to a BMW X4 or Tesla Model Y.
Images published by Peugeot show the new model’s interior has not ditched the mix of a small steering wheel and high-mounted displays seen across the modern Peugeot range – but the screens have undergone a radical overhaul.
Front-and-centre will be a 21-inch curved screen, which incorporates the car’s digital instrument cluster and infotainment display in one panel – with LED lighting underneath to produce a ‘floating’ effect.
The current 3008 is fitted with separate 10-inch infotainment and 12.3-inch digital instrument displays.
A smaller screen sits between the driver and passenger and includes the car’s climate, media, navigation and phone controls through touch-sensitive buttons, which sit above a set of physical buttons for essential heating and cooling functions.
The driver’s armrest includes an electric parking brake switch, a volume knob and drive mode selector, with a set of cupholders located towards the passenger’s side of the centre panel.
The Peugeot 3008’s steering wheel design is similar in design to the current-generation model – but with flatter top and bottom sections and a thicker rim – but the new SUV will gain touch-sensitive buttons.
Peugeot says the buttons can detect when the driver’s fingers are approaching them, but the company claims they will only be activated when they are pressed firmly.
German car giant Volkswagen was one of the first major brands to move away from physical buttons on its steering wheels, but criticism from owners and the media is set to see the company step back from touch-sensitive controls in its next-generation models.
Materials in the Peugeot 3008’s interior include fabric (dashboard, door cards), piano black and silver plastics, leather (steering wheel) and a suede-esque textile on the seats.
The new interior design’s reveal comes approximately three months before Peugeot unveils the electric 3008 SUV in full in September 2023.
According to Peugeot, the next-generation model will be an ‘electric fastback SUV’, suggesting its design will adopt the coupe-inspired lines and sloping roofline of the 408.
