The 10 millionth example of the Toyota Yaris city car and SUV range has rolled off the production line after almost a quarter of a century.
The Toyota Yaris has eclipsed 10 million sales – when all hatchback, sedan, SUV and high-performance derivatives are included – after 24 years of production.
Among the 10 million examples sold globally are 361,982 cars in Australia, including 19,184 Yaris Cross SUVs, 2393 GR Yaris hot hatches, and 81,983 examples of the original 1999-2006 Yaris, which was initially sold here as the Echo.
The Yaris is said to be the sixth Toyota model available in Australia to pass 10 million sales, joining the Corolla small car, Camry mid-size car, RAV4 family SUV, HiLux ute and LandCruiser four-wheel-drive.
The current-generation Yaris launched in 2020 is built in Japan, Brazil, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Thailand, France and the Czech Republic.
The first-generation model commenced production in Toyota’s Takaoka factory in Japan in January 1999.
The 10 millionth Yaris rolled off the production line on 30 March 2023, a grey GR Sport example produced in France, and destined for a customer in Paris.
More than half of the 10 million Yaris vehicles sold globally were delivered in Europe (5,155,506 up to the end of February 2023), according to Toyota, with more than 4.6 million produced in Europe to the end of 2022.
