The Peugeot 2008 small SUV has been facelifted in Europe, with cosmetic tweaks launching alongside tech updates – though timing of its Australian arrival is yet to be locked in.
The Peugeot 2008 small SUV has received a facelift for 2024, gaining new looks and updated technology – with an Australian launch locked in at a later, undisclosed date.
“The Peugeot 2008, including the e-2008, is an important part of our ongoing range in Australia,” a Peugeot Australia spokesperson told Drive.
“Anticipated launch details for the facelifted 2008 including timing, pricing and specification will be confirmed at a later date for the Australian market.”
While the electric Peugeot 2008 – the e-2008 – is due in Australian showrooms from the third quarter of this year (July to September), the first batch of locally-delivered examples will be pre-facelift models without the new look.
Headlining the Peugeot 2008’s facelift is the French brand’s new grille design and logo, which feature alongside revised wheel designs, tweaked headlights for the GT variant and three ‘claw’ daytime running lights on each side of the bumper.
At the rear, the Peugeot 2008’s tail-lights now feature six horizontal LED slats on either side, replacing the three horizontal light modules seen in pre-facelift variants.
Inside, all Peugeot 2008 grades are now fitted with a 10-inch infotainment screen (up from seven inches as standard), while there have also been minor adjustments to its digital instrument cluster.
European customers who opt for the 2008 GT receive ambient lighting and Alcantara upholstery, which are not available on the lesser-equipped Allure and Emotion variants.
The Peugeot 2008 continues to be available overseas with a choice of petrol and electric power, with a new hybrid option now joining the range.
For petrol-powered examples, a turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine drives the front wheels, available with either 74kW or 96kW in Europe.
Australian-delivered examples today are exclusively sold in 96kW and 114kW tunes of the 1.2-litre engine.
While the European market also gets to choose between six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions (depending on engine), Australian 2008s have only been sold as two-pedal examples since 2016.
The Peugeot e-2008 has received a power and range boost, with a larger 54kWh battery (up from 50kWh) powering a 115kW electric motor (up 15kW) – increasing the small SUV’s driving range from 345km to 406km on the European WLTP test cycle.
A mild-hybrid 2008 is also available in Europe, pairing a 101kW turbocharged petrol engine with a 48-volt electric motor, mounted inside the vehicle’s six-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Peugeot claims the mild-hybrid 2008 will consume approximately 15 per cent less fuel than the purely petrol-powered variants, while operating in electric-only mode for “more than 50 per cent of the time” in urban driving conditions.
The Peugeot 2008 is also equipped with a suite of safety systems as standard, including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist, driver attention alert and blind-spot monitoring.
Australian specifications, features and pricing information will be released closer to the facelifted Peugeot 2008’s arrival.
