Great Wall Motors 6×6 Cyber Pick-up unveiled, and it could come to Australia

Chinese car giant Great Wall Motors is exploring the possibility of a 6×6 version of its full-size GWM Ute. Unveiled at this week’s Shanghai Motor Show, it could even make it to Australian showrooms.

Chinese car giant Great Wall Motors has unveiled a 6×6 version of its big new ute at this week’s Shanghai Auto Show – and it could come to Australian showrooms.

The vehicle is called the GWM Cyber Pick-Up – eerily similar to the electric Tesla Cybertruck – and is based on the bigger brother to today’s GWM Ute.

That vehicle is powered by a choice of high-output petrol and diesel engines, the largest of which is a turbo petrol V6.

Apparently inspired by radical 6×6 versions of the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen in Germany and the Ram 1500 pick-up in the US, the GWM Ute 6×6 was initially thought to be some kind of motor show concept when leaked patent images appeared earlier this year.

However, it is now apparent Great Wall Motors is serious about introducing a new top-end flagship model that could make it to showrooms.

For now, it appears to be only planned for China. But so far, Australia has received most of GWM Haval’s flagship vehicles.

The 6×6 would also give GWM Haval an interesting vehicle to rival full size US pick-ups from Ram, Chevrolet and Ford in Australia.

As previously reported, the current GWM Ute and Tank 300 heavy-duty SUV share the same hardcore underpinnings. This 6×6 is believed to use a stretched and re-bodied version of this platform.

According to overseas reports, GWM is considering adding a more powerful engine to the the GWM Ute and Tank 300 – this 6×6 model could help launch a new engine option.

A representative for GWM Haval declined to comment on the chance of the GWM Ute 6×6 coming to Australia.

However, the company was previously said it will look at all vehicle options to continue to drive its record sales growth in Australia.
