2023 Mazda CX-60 price and specs

The new Mazda CX-60 medium SUV – with five seats, and six-cylinder or plug-in hybrid power – will cost up to $87,000 before on-road costs when showroom arrivals begin next year.

  • 2023 Mazda CX-60 pricing and specifications
  • Petrol/diesel six-cylinder or plug-in hybrid power
  • Three model grades with four option packs
  • Priced from $59,800 plus on-road costs

Flagship versions of the 2023 Mazda CX-60 will be the most expensive four-door Mazdas ever sold in Australia, when the new medium SUV range arrives in showrooms in June 2023.

The CX-60 is the first new Mazda model on the company’s ‘Large’ architecture, based on a rear-wheel-drive layout (but with standard all-wheel-drive in Australia), and a focus on more luxurious features and trims.

Sized between the CX-5 and CX-8 at the top of the mid-size SUV – but with five seats – the CX-60 in Australia will offer a choice of inline six-cylinder turbo petrol or diesel engines, or Mazda’s first plug-in hybrid, with 76km of claimed driving range.

Prices start from $59,800 plus on-road costs for the entry-level Evolve six-cylinder petrol – about $5500 more than the most expensive CX-5, and in line with a middle-of-the-range CX-8 diesel.

With more features and plug-in hybrid power, the range-topping CX-60 ‘P50e’ Azami costs $87,252 plus on-road costs – making it the most expensive four/five-door Mazda ever sold in Australia, second overall only to some variants of Mazda’s 1990s RX-7 sports car.

Add on-road costs – and some option boxes – and the flagship model’s price is likely to exceed $95,000 drive-away.

The pricing places the Mazda CX-60 in line with medium luxury SUVs from Germany, Sweden, Japan and South Korea – and non-luxury seven-seat SUVs from the class above, including Mazda’s own CX-9 (which is about $81,000 drive-away in flagship trim).

An entry-level Lexus NX costs $1000 more than the cheapest CX-60, while base versions of the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, Jaguar F-Pace and soon-to-be-superseded Mercedes-Benz GLC cost between $67,000 and $82,000 plus on-road costs.

Three CX-60 model grades will be available in Australia – Evolve, GT and Azami – with a choice of four option packs, depending on variant, and all available with petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid power.

Petrol models are powered by a 209kW/450Nm 3.3-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, aided by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system to drive all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission,

Diesel variants also use a 3.3-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, 48-volt mild-hybrid system, eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, but with outputs of 187kW/550Nm.

The petrol and diesel engines are capable of 0-100km/h acceleration times of 6.9 and 7.3 seconds respectively, and braked towing capacities of 2500kg (petrol) and 2000kg (diesel).Fuel economy for the diesel is claimed at 4.9L/100km in mixed driving.

The plug-in hybrid combines a 2.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine with a 100kW electric motor, 17.8kWh battery and eight-speed auto, for combined outputs of 241kW and 500Nm – more than any previous road car in the company’s history.

Mazda claims up to 76km of electric driving range at speeds up to 100km/h (in lenient Australian testing), a fuel use claim of 2.1L/100km, and a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.9 seconds.

It can be charged from empty to full in 2.5 hours on a 7.2kW AC home wallbox, Mazda says. It requires 95-octane premium unleaded – compared to the six-cylinder petrol engine, which can run on 91RON petrol.

Standard equipment on the entry-level Evolve include a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, 7.0- or 12.3-inch instrument displays, eight speakers, 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, synthetic leather and suede seats, and a suite of advanced safety technology.

Opting for the GT adds black highlights, black 20-inch wheels, black leather seats, a widescreen instrument cluster across the range, panoramic sunroof, heated front and rear seats, a hands-free power tailgate, electric steering column adjustment, and more.

The flagship Azami adds features including adaptive LED headlights, bright or body-coloured highlights, ventilated front seats, nappa leather upholstery, an upgraded 360-degree camera, and more.

Four option packages are available, from Vision Technology and Luxury packs on the Evolve, to two trim packs for the Azami: SP, which adds black accents and tan seats, or Takumi, which adds white seat upholstery and wood/cloth interior highlights.
