Ever dreamed of owning your own racing circuit, just 25 minutes from a capital city? This could be your last chance.
Archerfield International Speedway in Queensland is being offered for sale, with fears the site could be razed to make way for a new industrial development.
Also known as Brisbane International Speedway, the 6.4 hectare motorsports facility first opened in 1978 and is home to approximately 35 speedway events each year on its dirt track.
Located less than half an hour from Brisbane, the venue has been granted a lease to continue hosting events until June 2023 – including the Australian Sprintcar Open and the Australian Wingless Sprint Championship – with around 15 different racing leagues holding events at the circuit.
However, Drive understands the property has been for sale more than once in recent years, with a proposed sale reportedly having “stalled”, allowing racing to continue for the time being.
Should Archerfield get closed down, it would force motorsport fans out to Hi-Tech Oils Speedway, almost two hours west of Brisbane.
Cushman and Wakefield real estate agency director Morgan Ruig estimated the sale was likely to fetch between $1.2 million and $1.6 million.
“We’ve got pretty good interest at the moment from a vast range of listed and unlisted real estate trusts, local developers and owner-occupiers,” Mr Ruig told RealCommercial.
“That said, we haven’t found our buyer yet, despite getting a lot of interest from large development groups looking to build warehouses to support the needs of Queensland,” he said.
“We’ve also had a couple of inquiries from buyers looking to retain the speedway and we are certainly open to that but in the end, whoever is willing to pay the most will be the buyer.”
Interested parties are invited to submit expressions of interest before 4pm on 15 September 2022.
