Toyota has stopped accepting orders for the flagship editions of the Toyota HiLux ute – Australia’s top-selling vehicle for the past six years in a row – until it can catch up on the current backlog of orders.
Toyota dealers across Australia have been advised they can no longer accept orders for the Toyota HiLux Rogue and Toyota HiLux Rugged X until further notice.
Demand for the two most expensive variants of Australia’s most popular vehicle has outstripped the supply of parts.
Toyota Australia has advised dealers that orders for the Toyota HiLux Rogue luxury ute and Toyota HiLux Rugged X off-road ute “will now close,” although orders are expected to resume in the coming months.
Drive understands the pause in orders is only temporary, to allow the local fitment of Toyota HiLux Rogue and Toyota HiLux Rugged X accessories to catch up with current demand.
“We understand the significant demand on this vehicle and the eagerness to continue order-taking beyond the remaining available production,” Toyota Australia advised dealers.
However, Toyota said it wants to ensure it can supply vehicles which customers had already signed up for, before accepting any new orders.
A statement from Toyota Australia to Drive said: “The HiLux Rogue and Rugged X variants have both enjoyed high levels of interest since their introduction.
“Due to current demand, Toyota Australia can confirm that future orders for both the Rogue and Rugged X have been temporarily paused. We will provide an update in due course on both of these models.”
Drive understands order books for the Toyota HiLux Rogue and Toyota HiLux Rugged X will reopen once information regarding an annual running change is announced in the coming months.
The Toyota HiLux remains Australia’s top-selling vehicle outright, after six years in a row at the top of the charts.
Although they are the most expensive models in the HiLux range, they account for a significant proportion of sales.
The flagship editions are made in Thailand – as with other HiLux models – before locally-engineered upgrades are fitted to the vehicles at a Toyota final assembly facility in Melbourne.
