Jeep’s baby electric SUV spied testing

The first real-world image of Jeep’s first electric model has surfaced online, as the vehicle begins engineering evaluations.

An all-new small electric SUV from Jeep has begun road testing ahead of its debut in 2023.

A grainy black and white photo has emerged online showing a camouflaged version of the electric Jeep, which will be the first production electric vehicle from the American brand.

The baby electric vehicle (EV) appears to have been snapped in a studio, and given the poor quality of the image, suggests the photographer could have been using a tiny spy camera to smuggle out the first real-world photo of the car.

Despite the camouflage wrap, the prototype vehicle does appear to be identical to the digital renderings teased by Jeep in March.

While details of the as-yet-unnamed Jeep haven’t been released, it’s expected the model will be based on the CMP platform from parent company Stellantis – shared with the Peugeot 2008 – and will likely see Alfa Romeo and Fiat equivalents follow.

Jeep has previously said it plans to offer a battery-powered model in “every [market SUV] segment by 2025”.

The baby Jeep EV could make its European debut in the first half of 2023, though ongoing supply-chain issues may see that timeline blow out to 2024, according to some reports.
