2023 Range Rover detailed further, order books open for plug-in hybrid and SV

Land Rover claims thier plug-in hybrid will have a real-world electric range of 88 kilometres.

Further details of the next-generation 2023 Range Rover – the first new model since 2013 – have been revealed, along with improved specifications for the plug-in hybrid options.

The plug-in hybrid Range Rover (available to order now) will have a claimed electric-only driving range of 113 kilometres, besting the original estimate of around 100 kilometres.

This is calculated to manufacturer testing according to WLTP standards, and Land Rover says it should translate into a “real-world all-electric range of 88 kilometres”.

As for charging, the plug-in hybrid Range Rover will be available with 50kW DC fast charging, which is claimed to be able to provide up to 80 per cent of battery capacity in under an hour.

The most powerful variant – the P510e – combines a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine with a 105kW electric motor and 38kWh lithium ion battery. Combined outputs for this specification is 375kW and 700Nm, which is enough to propel the large luxury SUV to 100/km/h in 5.6 seconds – faster than a Volkswagen Golf GTI hot hatch.

A less expensive and less powerful P440e hybrid option is also available, which still offers a considerable 324kW and 620Nm from detuned versions of the same inline-six engine and electric motor.

Plug-in hybrid variants of the 2023 Range Rover start at $229,200 before on-road costs for the SE P440e, representing a $9000 premium over the entry-level $220,200 SE D300 variant.

The P510e is only available in HSE and Autobiography specifications, which cost $262,400 and $292,900 before on-road costs respectively.

These two hybrid options will be joined by a variety of petrol and diesel engines, all of which are fitted with mild-hybrid electrification.

For those who want a diesel-powered Range Rover, new Ingenium six-cylinder turbo-diesel engines are available in D300 or D350 guises. These engines are shared with other Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles, developing 221kW/650Nm (D300) or 258kW/700Nm (D350).

Petrol engines include Land Rover’s own Ingenium P400 inline-six making 294kW/550Nm – also shared with other vehicles. The most powerful choice is a new 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, sourced from BMW and making 390kW and 750Nm.

A fully-electric Range Rover – the first electric vehicle from Land Rover – will join the range in 2024, although pricing and specifications for this model are yet to be revealed.

Buyers will be able to choose between standard (2997mm) and long (3197mm) wheelbase variants, along with six trim levels: SE, HSE, Autobiography, First Edition and SV. Interiors can also be specified to seat either four, five or seven occupants.

Customers also benefit from the choice of four-, five- and seven-seat interiors across Standard and Long Wheelbase body designs.

The SV specification can be further optioned and customised, with Land Rover estimating up to 1.6 million different combinations possible for customers.
