While these images look real, they are computer-generated renders based on teaser photos of a camouflaged Everest test vehicle released by Ford earlier this week.
We asked Drive’s Photoshop guru Theophilus Chin to apply his skills and take away some of Ford’s mask to come up with these images.
As reported earlier, the 2022 Ford Everest has adopted the ‘tough truck’ looks of the Ford F-150 and 2022 Ford Ranger, though much of the core body structure and “glasshouse” is similar in appearance to the outgoing model.
Drive understands the new Ford Everest will also have the option of 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 power – shared with the upcoming Ford Ranger, and until recently the Ford F-150 in the US – thanks to the adoption of a chassis update that delivers a slightly longer “dash to axle” ratio.
Although the front-end appearance of the Everest 4WD and Ranger ute look identical, they differ slightly with unique lower intakes, but share their grilles, central trim bars and C-shaped headlights.
From the side view we can see there’s a revised version of the current 4WD’s window line, plus a new rear end with flipped L-shaped LED tail-light signatures.
As with the current Ford Everest, range-topping versions of the new model are likely to be available with chrome grille accents, 20-inch alloy wheels, and a panoramic sunroof.
We’ve yet to catch a glimpse inside the new Everest’s cabin, though it’s likely it will share the new Ford Ranger’s twin-screen dashboard, with a choice of 10.1-inch and 12-inch portrait infotainment touchscreens in the centre of the interior, and an 8.0-inch or 12-inch instrument display in front of the driver.
Standard-fit under the bonnet of the new Ford Everest is expected to be the related Ranger’s 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel four-cylinder, with the option of the flagship 3.0-litre single-turbo diesel V6, both mated with 10-speed automatic transmissions.
Outputs for both engines are yet to be confirmed, though the current Everest’s 2.0-litre bi-turbo engine develops 157kW and 500Nm, while the 3.0-litre V6 in the US-market F-150 produces 186kW and 600Nm.
Plug-in hybrid power is expected to join the range at a later date – with the Ranger/Everest platform capable of supporting electrified powertrains – though details are yet to be confirmed.
The 2022 Ford Everest will be revealed in full in the first quarter of 2022 (January to March), ahead of an Australian launch expected to occur by the end of next year.
