The Nissan Surf-Out is the Japanese brand’s electric ute of the future.
Japanese car giant Nissan has unveiled an electric ute concept – dubbed the Nissan Surf-Out – as part of a plan to roll out 15 zero emissions vehicles by 2030.
For now, the Nissan Surf-Out (one of four electric Nissan concepts unveiled today) exists only as a computer-generated image.
However, it is expected to be based on an electric vehicle platform that will underpin a range of future models.
Although the Nissan Surf-Out concept vehicle is not a replacement for the heavy-duty Nissan Navara pick-up, Drive understands that Nissan Australia is interested in such a vehicle if it were to me made available locally.
The Nissan Surf-Out concept is similar in philosophy to the Hyundai Santa Cruz, an pick-up based on a mid-size SUV.
While the Nissan Surf-Out pick-up likely won’t have the payload and towing capacity of a heavy duty ute, it is part of a shift towards lifestyle utes that are an extension from a mid-size SUV.
Details a such as driving range and power are yet to be disclosed, as the vehicle is still in the concept stage.
However one of the options available to Nissan delivered a maximum 500km driving range – from a solid state battery – and the option of all-wheel-drive.
The concept images show tailgate logos could become a thing of the past, with a large digital display.
However, this is likely just a concept car tease rather than a plan for the production vehicle.
