GMC Hummer EV deliveries to commence in December

GMC’s first electric pick-up is now rolling off the production line, with a promise the first cars will be with their owners this December.

The wait is almost over for GMC Hummer EV buyers, as deliveries of the all-electric dual-cab pick-up are set to begin in time for the festive season.

GMC vice president Duncan Aldred confirmed to US media (including Motor Trend), the first Edition 1 pick-ups are in production at the brand’s Michigan plant, and ready to be sent out to pre-order holders.

The executive also confirmed the Hummer EV, which was revealed in October 2020, has an EPA driving range claim of 529 kilometres on a single charge in Edition 1 guise, instead of the 563km originally touted.

The GMC Hummer Edition 1 priced at $US112,000 ($AU155,000), will be followed by less expensive models with less power between 2022 and 2024. The Hummer EV SUV is also expected in 2023.

The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 will join the Rivian R1T in the emerging electric pick-up market, with the Ford F-150 Lightning, Tesla Cybertruck and Chevrolet Silverado EV expected in the coming years.

The GMC pick-up, good for 735kW and (an estimated) 2033Nm, is built on the company’s Ultium battery system, a platform developed especially for many of the 30 zero-emission models General Motors is planning to make available by the end of 2025.

The first full year of Hummer EV Edition 1 production is already sold out, with more than 125,000 people registering their interest in the Hummer EV, and a smaller group putting down deposits to reserve one.

There is no word as to if the GMC Hummer EV will ever be released in Australia.
