Peugeot has given its 3008 mid-size SUV an electrified boost, adding a new plug-in hybrid model.

- GT Sport PHEV AWD added to range
- 222kW plug-in system combines petrol engine and two e-motors
- Priced from $79,990 before on-road costs
The 2022 Peugeot 3008 range has been electrified, with the Australian arrival of a new plug-in hybrid variant promised in the first quarter of 2022 (January to March).
Based on the facelifted 3008 launched locally earlier this year, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model will be offered in Australia in a sole choice of variant, pairing the range-topping GT Sport equipment level with the most potent all-wheel-drive powertrain available in Peugeot showrooms in Europe.
Priced from $79,990 before on-road costs, the 3008 GT Sport Plug-in Hybrid AWD ties the 607 sedan of 2001-02 for the title of the most expensive Peugeot ever sold in Australia, and represents a not-insignificant $25,000 jump over the standard 3008 GT Sport, powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with front-wheel drive.
Powering the new PHEV is a 147kW 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, paired to 81kW front and 83kW rear electric motors to develop a combined 222kW.
An eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmissions transfers torque to the front wheels, with the rear tyres spun by a new ‘e-RAD’ electrified rear axle.
A 13.2kWh battery enables up to 60km of claimed driving range on Europe’s WLTP test cycle, aided by an ‘e-Save’ mode allowing the vehicle’s battery to hold its state of charge until electrical power is required.
The 3008 GT Sport Plug-in Hybrid AWD is expected to mirror its petrol-only counterpart on standard equipment, with highlights including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, Focal premium sound system, 19-inch black ‘Washington’ alloy wheels, a ‘Black Pack’ exterior styling package, and full-grain nappa leather upholstery.
A full list of standard equipment for the entire Peugeot 3008 range is included at the bottom of this story. For more details on the petrol and diesel-only 3008 range, click here to read our full price and spec story published earlier this year.
The 2022 Peugeot 3008 GT Sport Plug-in Hybrid AWD will arrive in Australian showrooms in the first quarter of 2022 (January to March) – a delay from the October to December 2021 timing initially announced, in order to ensure “an appropriate level of supply to meet anticipated customer demand”.
However, “exclusive pre-launch access” (including test drives) will be offered to consumers prior to launch, with Peugeot Australia advising interested customers to contact their nearest dealer for more information.
