The new Honda Civic hatchback will be available in Australian showrooms next week with just one model priced from $47,200 drive-away – $16,200 more than the starting price of the current car.
- 2022 Honda Civic pricing and specifications
- New car’s base price $16,200 higher than the outgoing model
- One variant available, with all features as standard
- Priced from $47,200 drive-away
The starting price of the 2022 Honda Civic will increase by $16,200 next week, with the introduction of the all-new model from $47,200 drive-away.
Set to be offered in a sole VTi LX variant in Honda Australia showrooms, the 11th-generation Civic hatchback will come in $16,200 above the entry-level VTi-S variant of the current 10th-generation car, and $7600 more than the previous range-topping model, the VTi-LX.
It brings the Honda Civic nameplate into the same pricing league as small luxury cars from BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi, and nears the outgoing Civic Type R hot hatch’s $50,990 before on-road costs list price at launch in 2018.
Standard equipment has increased over the outgoing Civic range-topper, however, with the new model featuring blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a larger 9.0-inch touchscreen, 12-speaker Bose sound system, wireless phone charging, and more.
Powering the new model is an evolution of the current car’s 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, developing 131kW and 240Nm (up 4kW/20Nm) – increasing to 134kW with 95RON premium fuel – sent to the front wheels through a CVT automatic transmission (with 91RON unleaded supported).
The range will be bolstered by an ‘e:HEV’ hybrid model expected to arrive by this time next year, and a high-performance Type R some time in 2023.
Bigger than the current model in length, wheel track, and wheelbase, the new Civic’s front pillars have been shifted rearward by 50mm, joining a lower roofline, window line and a sleeker bonnet for a sportier look.
Standard equipment on the Civic VTi LX in Australia includes 18-inch alloy wheels, a 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, a 7.0-inch instrument display (but not the full 10.25-inch unit available overseas), electric and heated front seats, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, dual-zone climate control, and LED headlights and tail-lights.
Standard active safety features include autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring (replacing the LaneWatch camera system), rear cross-traffic alert, traffic jam assist, and driver attention alert.
Four colours will be available, all at no additional cost: Platinum White, Crystal Black, Premium Crystal Red and Premium Crystal Blue.
The 2022 Honda Civic VTi LX will go on sale in Australia on 6 December 2021, with all Australian models to be built in Japan, rather than Thailand.
