The new Nissan Z will hit Australian roads in mid-2022, with one mainstay variant on offer – plus a limited-run Proto Spec edition.
Nissan Australia has confirmed the first local details of its revitalised, new-generation sports car, the new 2022 Nissan Z, ahead of its arrival in Australian showrooms in mid-2022.
Mirroring the 370Z it replaces, the new Z – revealed in August (click here for full details) – will be offered in a sole eponymous variant upon its arrival in local Nissan showrooms next year, offering a long list of standard equipment – though it’ll be joined at launch by a limited-run Z Proto Spec edition, inspired by the 2020 concept of the same name.
Prices are yet to be revealed, however expect a fair increase over the $50,490 before on-road costs sticker of the outgoing 370Z.
Powering all Australian models will be a new-for-Zed 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 (codenamed VR30DDTT), set to send 298kW and 475Nm to the rear wheels through a choice of six-speed manual or nine-speed torque-converter automatic transmissions.
The former of the pair features an Exedy high-performance clutch, electronic rev-matching and carbon-fibre composite driveshaft, while the latter offers aluminium paddle shifters. Launch control and a mechanical limited-slip rear differential are standard across the range.
A full standard equipment list will be released closer to launch, however highlights will include an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a reversing camera – with the 9.0-inch display with satellite navigation off-limits for Australia – plus a configurable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and leather-accented seats.
Standard active safety features include autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and front and rear parking sensors. Active Noise Cancellation and Active Sound Enhancement (which pipes engine noise into the cabin) are also standard.
Available in “limited numbers”, the standard Nissan Z coupe will be joined by a Z Proto Spec limited edition at launch, inspired by the 2020 concept that previewed the new road car.
The Proto Spec model adds “bespoke” 19-inch bronze forged alloy wheels, yellow brake calipers, a black interior with yellow accents and stitching, and an available two-tone paint scheme combining a Ikazuchi Yellow body with a Super Black roof.
The 2022 Nissan Z is due to arrive in Australia in mid-2022, with full pricing and specifications to be announced closer to launch.
