Polestar confirms three new models by 2024, commits to right-hand-drive markets

While timing is yet to be announced, it’s highly likely the entire all-electric range is destined for Australian showrooms.

Volvo’s electric sister brand Polestar has confirmed plans to launch three new models by 2024, all of which will be engineered for right-hand-drive markets.

A Polestar 3 large SUV will enter production in 2022 – as a twin under the skin to the successor to the Volvo XC90 – followed by two additional yet-to-be-named models in 2023 or 2024 (although existing conventions would suggest ‘Polestar 4’ and ‘Polestar 5’ badging is probable).

New teaser images (shown below) reveal a second SUV is in the works – seemingly a smaller model with a coupe-like roofline – alongside what looks like a production version of 2020’s Precept sedan concept.

“Polestar is fully committed to its global markets, both left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive,” a spokesperson for the brand told Drive.

It’s therefore highly likely the majority – if not all – future Polestar models are destined for Australian showrooms. However, timing is yet to be confirmed.

Polestar – which currently builds just one model, the Polestar 2 high-riding sedan (see gallery above) – delivers approximately 10,000 vehicles per year internationally, just ahead of exclusive supercar manufacturer Ferrari.

However, it claims an expanding line-up and broadened market appeal will help it increase total sales by 2800 per cent within the next four years, to a total of 290,000.

Further announcements on the brand’s future in Australia are expected in the coming weeks, ahead of its official launch in November 2021, and first deliveries expected early next year. Stay tuned to Drive for all the latest updates.
