‘Near-production’ Mercedes-Maybach Concept EQS electric SUV revealed

The opulent high-riding SUV features a “yacht-like” interior and designated space for “seasonally appropriate floral decorations.”

A “near-production” Mercedes-Maybach EQS electric SUV concept has been revealed overnight at the Munich motor show, with a wide range of luxurious and quirky features.

Underpinned by the standard Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan’s ‘modular architecture for luxury,’ it’s expected dual motors will drive the high-riding vehicle. However, performance specifications are yet to be announced.

The composite body – made from steel, aluminium, and carbon-fibre – is finished in two-tone paint, and rides on 24-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. A chrome spoiler is mounted on the roof.

Automated doors at the front and rear reveal a plush leather-trimmed interior, finished with white piano lacquer and a deep blue material. According to Mercedes-Maybach, this creates a “feel-good atmosphere on board as if on an elegant yacht.”

Faux fur lines the footwells, while a “centre console appears to float like a continuous ribbon from the cockpit to the rear”. A large storage space – for “folding tables, a box of champagne goblets or a refrigerated compartment” – is integrated under the seats.

Meanwhile, a centrally-mounted vase insert allows the owner to “bring seasonally appropriate floral decorations and thus nature into the interior of the Maybach.”

A ‘Hyperscreen’ – comprising three individual displays, and compatible with the MBUX infotainment system – extends across the entirety of the dashboard, including a 12.3-inch digital display sitting behind the steering wheel.

Mercedes-Maybach claims the vehicle will have a range of approximately 600km on Europe’s WLTP test cycle.

A production version of the Mercedes-Maybach Concept EQS is expected in the coming years. While the concept is described as “near-production,” a spokesperson for Mercedes-Benz in Australia was unable to confirm a timeline for local availability.
