Maserati’s upcoming mid-size SUV has leaked, with parts from a prototype listed for sale in Poland.
The upcoming 2022 Maserati Grecale has leaked online, ahead of its full reveal in November 2021.
Unearthed by Motor1, a slew of parts from a pre-production Grecale have been listed for sale on Polish classifieds website Allegro – the same website that saw parts from the BMW M5 CS leaked last year – providing an early look beneath the camouflage at Maserati’s new mid-size luxury SUV.
As expected, the Grecale bears a familial resemblance to larger models in the Maserati stable, with the front bumper drawing cues from the larger Levante SUV and new MC20 supercar, and the front quarterpanels featuring the brand’s tri-hole signature.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel is all but identical to the unit in the new MC20 – bar a lack of carbon-fibre accents, and gloss black switchgear (instead of matte) – while the LED headlights, tail-lights and 21-inch alloy wheels are consistent with those seen on earlier prototypes in Europe.
Set for reveal in November 2021, the new Maserati Grecale is the storied Italian marque’s second SUV, slotting below the large Levante to rival the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC and its rumoured twin under the skin, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio.
Engine options are expected to range from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder (with mild-hybrid assistance) in entry-level models, to a range-topping, high-performance Trofeo model, likely powered by a version of Maserati’s in-house-designed 3.0-litre twin-turbo ‘Nettuno’ V6, or the Stelvio’s 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6.
An electric version of the Grecale is expected to follow in the coming years, wearing ‘Folgore’ branding.
Earlier interior spy photos have also shown a circa-10-inch central touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard, plus a digital instrument cluster in front of the driver, and conspicuous metallic paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.
Full details of the 2022 Maserati Grecale will be revealed when the wraps come off officially in November 2021.
The new mid-size SUV will be just one of a slew of new Maserati models over the coming years, including new-generation GranTurismo coupe and GranCabrio convertible ‘GT’ cars in 2022, and all-new Levante and Quattroporte flagship cars by the middle of the decade – all with the option of electric power.
