Renault is believed to be working on a new SUV coupe aimed primarily at the Russian market, set to be revealed at the Moscow motor show in August this year.
In a new report by Russia’s Vedomosti and translated on Carscoops, a handful unnamed sources claim the new model will be based on the same platform as the Dacia/Renault Duster, which is the brand’s best-seller in the region.
The new crossover will be manufactured at Renault’s facility in Moscow, and is expected to commence production before the end of the year.
Reports indicate it will be revealed at the 2018 Moscow motor show, which kicks off on August 29.
In terms of positioning in the French brand’s line-up, the new SUV coupe is expected to slot above the Kaptur (pictured), which is the Russian version of the Captur sold in other markets like Australia and Europe.
The Russian Kaptur is also based on the tougher Duster’s platform, which boasts a larger footprint than the Clio-based Captur.
Additionally, the Kaptur offers all-wheel drive – where the Captur does not – along with heavy-duty suspension, a locking centre differential, and 204mm of ground clearance thanks to its more rugged underpinnings.
While it’s believed the new SUV will be aimed primarily at the Russian market, it’s unclear at this stage whether Renault’s upcoming crossover coupe will be available for other markets, or whether the company is working on another version for Europe.
